C Munksgaard, 2000 Station, Boise, Idaho, 2Biological Resources Research Center, University of Nevada, Reno, Abstract – Metapopulation theory has attracted considerable interest USA with reference to the salmonids. There has been little empirical evidence, however, to guide the evaluation or application of metapopulation concepts. From knowledge of salmonid life histories and our own work with bull trout (Salvelinus confluentus), Lahontan cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki henshawi) and westslope cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarki lewisi), we suggest that simple generalizations of salmonid metapopulations are inappropriate. Although spatial structuring and dispersal mechanisms are evident, the relevance of extinction and colonization processes are likely to vary with life history, species, scale, and landscape. Understanding dispersal, the role of suitable but unoccupied habitats, and

Tidal basins are described by major features such as tidal flat, tidal channel, intertidal area, and tidal prism, which have been formulated by some empirical relations based on field observations. Although empirical relations explain some morphological patterns, those are not applicable to all conditions. Due to the lack of observations for different areas and under different geophysical condi...
متن کاملInteraction of landscape and life history attributes on genetic diversity, neutral divergence and gene flow in a pristine community of salmonids.
Landscape genetics holds promise for the forecasting of spatial patterns of genetic diversity based on key environmental features. Yet, the degree to which inferences based on single species can be extended to whole communities is not fully understood. We used a pristine and spatially structured community of three landlocked salmonids (Salvelinus fontinalis, Salmo salar, and Salvelinus alpinus)...

Introduction: Despite the progress of medical science, disability has not decreased significantly, so that today, social thinkers have raised disability as a global issue. The normal / healthy lifestyle of people with disabilities is one of the most complex and multidimensional issues in the field of disability studies that has attracted the attention of researchers and has faced an explosion o...

متن کاملBanded vegetation in some Australian semi-arid landscapes: 20 years of field observations to support the development and evaluation of numerical models of vegetation pattern evolution
Periodic vegetation patterns (PVPs) are striking features of many global drylands. Although they have attracted wide research study, resulting in many hypotheses, their origin and controlling factors remain unresolved. Theoretical works dominate a large literature seeking to account for the occurrence and properties of PVPs, especially banded vegetation patterns (‘tiger bush’). In light of...
